Chris at Chunk-A-Nuke props brings us this menacing selection of explosives from Fallout: New Vegas.  I particularly like the Plasma Mine and Red Glare ammo cylinder.

The Spear of Destiny

The unveiling of Dale Bigford's Immortality Box continues.  Some of the latest items include a very well done take on the Spear of Destiny and a Hittite Lich Phylactery.  As with the other artifacts their respective back stories are outstanding.

As an aside, my spellcheck tried to change Lich to Luchador.  The thought of a millennia old Hittite sorcerer competing in the squared circle of Lucha Libre wrestling is strangely compelling.

The Tree of Life

This amazing piece of work comes to us from artist Oskars Pantelejevs. The Tree of Life is a conjectural occult item intended as the McGuffin in an Indiana Jones or Tomb Raider style movie. The design and craftsmanship is wonderful, but it's also mechanized- the tree actually unfolds to reveal the glowing gem contained by the filagreed branches.

Immortality for Sale

“Now then, the inventory.” Grasping the two rings the Dealer swung the chest open. “20 items. Particularly collected in this chest and tailored to your spectrum of needs.”

The cabinet swung open to reveal two equal sections with a complex array of doors. All different sizes, all tagged with a number and in no discernable order.

“MY spectrum of needs…?”

“We research all our clients and match them with a Dealer who’s inventory best suits his persona. With items that meet some inherent “need” of the client’s mentality. Acquiring a means of immortality is QUITE personal.”

What price would you be willing to pay for immortality? The answer may well be in this intriguing box. Dale Bigford will be revealing the contents over the next week. I can't wait to see what's inside.

Layering for LARP

This demonstration of how a good costume takes advantage of layering comes to us from Balmore Leathercraft.  Building up multiple colors, textures, and forms adds a huge amount of visual interest.  You can also end up looking like a homeless person that wandered in off the street.  That's why experimenting is so important.

Grimoire of the Third Eye

Mille Cuirs brings us another wonderful tome.  This time it's the Grimoire of the Third Eye, featuring a hand tooled leather cover with inset glass eye.

The Armor of Fenris

Atelier Fantastique returns to our pages with this beautiful Fenris LARP armor. The wolf-themed set is hand tooled from leather. I would think the existence of black powder guns would make something like this a bit pointless, but, hey, it's fantasy. You gotta go with the flow.

The Glow

First, I want to apologize for this video.

I saw a GIF of this sword set from Monster Hunter on Reddit yesterday and was blown away by the lighting effect.  What makes it notable is that the internal illumination shines through a painted surface, something I've never seen done effectively in any kind of prop.

After some Googling I found the build video for the swords from Kamui Cosplay.  On the bright side, no pun intended, it includes a very detailed look at how the effect was achieved using LED light strips and translucent EVA foam.  That said, there's a whole lot of cheese to slog through to get there.  I have nothing but the highest respect for KC's incredible craftsmanship, but the forced cuteness of the opening minutes is a bit much.

Iron and Bone

Ukrainian artist my99reality brings us this set of iron and bone Chaos Warrior armor.

Elder Thing

I don't want to get all gushy, but these renders of an Elder Thing from Sadania are just gorgeous.  The only quibble I have, and it's minor at best, is the depiction of the "feet".  I'd love to see an animated version, but I imagine trying to capture the radial walking and flying cycle would be absolutely maddening.

Not of This Earth

This alien specimen comes to us from Ukrainian artist Alice Tochylovska. As nifty as it may be it's always a good idea to avoid creatures described with the words "biohazard" and "contagious" in close proximity
